Work Plan

To achieve the vision of a fully functional ECaBox device, challenging technical specifications have to be developed:

1) A perfusion system circulating a blood substitute

2) A blood circulation pumped at a specific pressure, temperature, pH, oxygen and nutrients/metabolites concentration constantly monitored by respiration sensors (sensor spots or fibre sensors), which allow measurements in closed chambers mimicking in vivo conditions

3) An artificial vitreous, blood and submerging media that 4) have to be integrated into a single solution

The ECaBox vision will be approached in two phases:

a) Integrate the essential components of ECaBox to enable exploring regenerative processes in fully functional human eyeballs

b) Exploit the ECaBox prototype by providing a proof of concept of vision restoration to validate regenerative therapeutic approaches in human tissue
